France Investigates Shein and Temu After Adult Toy Incident

E-commerce platforms featuring these four major platforms are presently under investigation in France for the allegation of enabling youngsters to obtain pornographic information on their services, the Paris prosecutor announced on this Tuesday.

The nation's consumer protection agency had brought to light the retailers to the legal authorities on Sunday after voicing worries about the sale of minor-looking adult toys on Shein's platform in recent days.

The investigative authorities clarified that the online services are being looked into over graphic, explicit or inappropriate messages that can be viewed by young people.

One of the platforms commented that it considers the matter with utmost gravity. These companies have also been contacted for a statement.

Shein and AliExpress are furthermore being examined over the distribution of information involving children that are of a adult character, the authorities said.

The regulatory authority, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, had remarked that the sex dolls' product information and categorisation left "little doubt as to the child pornography essence" of the items.

The scrutiny of the retailer coincides with the company, which was started in China, makes arrangements for the launch on this Wednesday of its inaugural long-term brick-and-mortar store in the French Republic.
